About me

Characterizing Endocarp cell layers in Brassicaceae Siliques

History

Justin began his research career as an Undergraduate student in the Dr. Marcus Samuel lab in late 2018 to early 2020, where he worked closely alongside Ph.D. students. He graduated in the Spring of 2020 with an Undergraduate degree in Plant Biology (Honors) and started his Master's of Science that fall. Justin has taken on the role of Lab manager and has been spearheading the organization of the Dr. Marcus Samuel Lab.

Justin's Graduate Thesis is focusing on characterizing the role of the endocarp cell layers in Brassicaceae siliques. He has a keen interest in microscopy and histological sectioning. One of the main questions Justin has throughout his Thesis project is how can the cell layers within the Silique help create better crop yields for farmers, he hopes that his research can not only shed light on fundamental pathways in the silique cell patterning but also create viable lines to combat the pod shatter problem.
